Decorating Tips & Professional Ideas......

 Designer Tips:

  • Buy what you love, then you will find the perfect place for it...

  • Be sure your furniture is proportional to the room size

  • Use accessories in larger scale & place them in odd numbers

  • Play with color - but keep it to three.
  • 60% should be your wall color
  • 30% is your fabric color
  • 10% should be the color in the accessories

  • Stay away from matchy-matchy
  • Notice the different styles & textures in this one room?

  • Be sure your rooms look 'full' but not crowded

  • Always use lots of lighting - Let all Natural light flow in and
  • Keep window treatments to a minimum. Tinting is recommended!

  • Don't be afraid to break the mold! Decorate according to your personality - (this red couch broke a black leather & sleek look for downtown lofts!)

Be careful not to 'over' stage or 'under' stage - Design areas for the correct fullness & flow

Decorating & Designing doesn't have to "make sense" - just have fun!

Not Selling?  Make your home fit YOUR lifestyle...take risks!

Utilize the whole room!  Make it unique & special as well as functional!

Reuse your items in fun

non-conventional ways!

Recently we found a cutting table/board used in the 1940’s.  We removed a large shelf in our entry way and replaced it with this thin and long table – it looks and works amazingly well!

Another idea:  We bought an old potato work bench and reused it for a desk.  The little drawers are perfect for paper clips, stamps and more.

Trunks work for benches, cocktail tables, outdoor storage..create your own ideas!

Have an ugly file cabinet?  Repaint it to match your current decor' & use it for a guest room night stand - there are many spray paint colors to choose from and you could even turn it around or put stencil on it or mock night stand drawers with handles!

Recently I encouraged a client to get a picket fence piece at a hardware store, paint it white & use it in her country guest room as a headboard! Adorable!

We took an old 60’s kitchen hutch & turned it into office shelves with the bottom section used for files, paper, extra storage – the kitchen item works perfectly in an office.

Use hatbox tops for hanging artwork and/or frame them and hang.

Use firm netted placemats of different styles for a quick, inexpensive headboard - it is creative, brings texture & saves space!

Have an idea?  Share it with us - we’d love to pass it on!
